I haven't been posting for a while as Shelby has been in and out of the hospital more lately. We have been home for a week but things are not going well. Shelby does not seem to be recuperating from this last hospitalization so I brought her home so she could be in a place where she is more comfortable. I really wish that I could say that she was going to get better but I don't seem to be able to fix her this time :( Please send lots of positive thoughts her way.......

We are home again and I am hoping to get started on the little house again today once Shelby gets settled in. She is realizing she is home again, so she has her own possessions around her, which cheers her up.

Happy Halloween everyone! We are spending ours back in the hospital as Shelby was admitted again last Wednesday night. Since Thursday she has been in intensive care but we are hoping to get out on the regular floor today so we can enjoy some of the Halloween treats that the hospital puts on for the kids.

Shelby has been having some high blood pressure issues for the last couple of days so yesterday they decided to put her in the hospital. When we got here , her pressure was through the roof and they are still trying to stabilize it. Hoping they can figure out what is causing this as it is happening every couple of weeks or so, although it has never gotten this bad.

I was in the backyard this afternoon when I heard this really sad crying noise. Looked all over the place and then spotted this little baby racoon clinging to the side of the tree. It made it back to it's den but because I didn't see the parents, I put in a call to the rescue center to get some advice. I will now be keeping an eye on the little thing to make sure that it hasn't been abandoned. If it has, I will be calling the rescue center again tomorrow.

I took a picture of the little bakery today next to one of my Carol McBride dolls just to give you an idea of its size. The little girl stands about 3 3/4 inches tall :)

Wasn't quite sure how I was going to do the electrical but I finally came up with something that would work :) It has LED lighting powered by a 3 volt coin cell battery. All the wiring and battery holder are hidden in the base. The on/off switch is attached to the base at the back.
Inside the bakery are the shelves filled with cakes as well as the glass fronted counter with cakes. On top of the counter sits a cash register, a cake book and another cake. To the left are 2 tables with 4 stools. On the tables sit glass bowls with a plant in them. To the left rear is a thin shelving unit with plates on the shelves.
I am so happy with the way this turned out and looking forward to starting my next project.
Oh....and the lights aren't really that yellow in real life :)

Last night I made the cakes and got them put on the shelves. I also put 2 cakes into the counter display as well as putting one on the counter, with a book and the cash register. Hopefully today I will be able to start putting everything into the shop :)

Today I made a little shelf to go over the door. I will probably put some plants on it and if you look close, you will see that it has some scroll work on the bottom braces. They were done by a fellow miniaturist who has a laser machine (wish I had one!!). My mind has been going in circles with different ideas for things that he can cut out for me :)

We've been home a week and Shelby is starting to let me work on some minis. She is not giving me a lot of time, but enough to give me a break. Yesterday I made some wallpaper and today I am cutting out doorways for the newest bakery. If things go well, I am hoping to get more of the little shop done :)

After 11 days in intensive care, Shelby was well enough to come home. She ended up having Pneumonia, Influenza Type 3 and a really bad ear infection. Also this other really weird virus that looked like chemical burns on the left side of her face, neck, back and shoulder. Things got a bit scary for a while but she is doing much better.

Shelby was up all night sick so will not be working on minis for a bit. I am hoping that this is just a little fluid build up and not anything else. Getting some supplies ready to put in my room (books, tv remote, phone...) as it looks like I will be spending most of my time in there with her. One of the things about working on the 1/144th scale (if you don't have a laser cutter) is getting good cuts. I am not real fond of using a hand saw and the exacto blade isn't exact, so I went on a search :) Well, of course I found a laser cutter that I fell in love with BUT definitely not in the budget. So next in line came mini table saws. I am so excited they came today and I am gonna start playing after I get them set up. Here comes some more 1/144th scale goodies!! :)

Things with Shelby have been up and down so I haven't really been in the mood to work on minis, BUT, I have been thinking about making some shop roomboxes. Yesterday, while trying to figure out measurements on graph paper, I thought I would make a small version to work out the parts (plus I have this kewl cutting machine that I have been wanting to play with). Long story short, I ended up going real tiny and came up with this little bakery. It is not done yet, still have to do the top and possibly a light, plus I need to do furnish it.

I am still trying to finish up all the outside projects before the rains hit and one of them is the new bird aviary. Since I re-did part of the back yard, I had to take down the old aviary, so the birds have been living in temporary cages. They are not as weather proof so I really need to finish it. This is a view of the front of the shop that is off the deck. A lot of my minis are in that room as well as quite a few of my birds. Still have a bit to do to finish it up.

Feels like forever since I have been here but I have been so busy with cleaning up my yard. As you can see from the first picture...it was a mess!!

I have lived here for almost 27 years and I have never really spent any time on it. But.....the time had come. My son turned 18 and he wanted to have some people over for a bar-b-que so I had to get busy. Took me about 2 months, but here is the almost finished yard. There are still a few more things I want to do. And the best part......it's safe to take Shelby out there now :)

When we got home from the hospital last Thursday we discovered a rather large box with Shelbys name on it. Now normally when boxes come for Shelby, they are medical supplies, so imagine our delight when we found all these wonderful little treasures when we opened the box! I just want to thank everyone for helping to put a smile on Shelbys face, especially after all these hospital visits we seem to be doing! Unfortunately, I couldn't find a list of who made what, so except for the ones that were pictured on Careys blog, I can't send a personal thank you to everyone. If you where one of the special people that sent something, or know who did, please let me know :)

Today we made our first trip away from the house by ourselves! Shelby was so glad to be back in her car seat, she actually even giggled a little :) We had to take a quick trip into town to get fitted for a soft brace to help straighten out her leg so the muscles wouldn't tighten up. And I think this weekend, if it is not pouring, we might even try another little trip :)

Took Shelby in for her appointment with the orthopedist (?) today and the leg has healed!! She no longer has to wear that huge old clunky brace, although tomorrow she has an appointment to get fitted for a soft brace that will hopefully help her leg stay straightened out. For some reason, when she is not wearing the brace, she bends that leg and won't straighten it :( So anyway.....I can now start taking her places again without having to depend on or ask someone to help me. We are free...... :)

As you can see from the pic, Mini Purls eyes have opened :) She is doing great and turning into the cuddliest little girl ever. The neighbors found her siblings this morning (one of them had passed away) so they brought the remaining one over to me to take care of. Mini Purl wasn't quite sure what to make of him but I think they'll become friends soon :)

A few weeks ago I got a private message from a Facebook friend (a fellow miniaturist that I have never personally met) and she was wanting my snail mail so that she could send a small gift to cheer up Shelby and I. Oh...and she also wanted to know my favorite color :) Now we love surprises so I happily sent off the information. Today in the mail we got the package and OMG, I was stunned! We had so much fun unbagging everything to get a closer look. And when we got to the one package that was wrapped up, we found the most beautiful lady doll. I wanted to share with you all, the incredible gifts that were sent by her. Her name is Loretta Kasza and she also has a wonderful website with her collections. Check it out!

Purl is doing great.....she is finally getting the hang of the bottle and she just can't eat fast enough! Lily is her best friend and it is so cute to see her cuddling up to her. I think Purl is about a week old as her eyes haven't opened yet but it looks like they might be soon. She just got done eating and is taking a big stretch :)

To say things have been busy is my life is an understatement and yesterday brought another challenge. I want you to meet Shelbys stuffed leopard, Lily....

I have "borrowed" Lily to keep the newest member of the family from feeling lonely. If you look real close, you can see Purrl sleeping on Lilys leg.

Purrl came to us yesterday as the neighbors found her abandoned in their yard. She was scared and crying and hungry. But after 24 hours of good meals and a warm place to sleep, she has not stopped purring.

Shelby was so excited to be out of the bed today, even though we didn't have to go anywhere. I set her up in the wheelchair and moved her into the living room so she could watch TV on the big screen :) The weather is absolutely gorgeous so all the doors and windows are open, letting in the fresh air. I am so bummed it is supposed to start raining again as she did so well today we were going to venture outside :(
She still hasn't smiled but if things keep going the way they did today, I can start working on my minis again! :)

The doctor visit on Thursday went okay. She did say that everything was healing well and we'll go back in May for another check-up and x-rays. Shelby is slowly having better days and I think she really enjoyed those gorgeous days we had been having. Getting her in and out of the house and car didn't seem to stress her out as much and she didn't cry the whole time :)
I also wanted to thank Carey at Chickory Nits for the wonderful thing that she is doing for Shelby and all of you that are participating!

Surgery was almost 3 weeks ago now and we go in on the 8th to meet with the orthopedic surgeon. First I have to take Shelby in on Monday to have x-rays done. Last week I took her in and a new brace was made for her leg that is removable. The original cast was just causing too many issues with her leg swelling. This new brace is great because it is adjustable. And with the doctors okay, I can even take it off and let her leg relax. The first few times I took it off it made my stomach a little queasy, but I am getting used to it. I was so afraid I was going to hurt her leg but the doctor said the pin will keep everything where it needs to be.

On a sad note, we lost our goat Sam to old age yesterday. We got him at 2 weeks old when my son Cody was in kindergarten. Cody is graduating from high school in a couple of months so they basically grew up together. He is really going to be missed :(

We have been home almost a week now and Shelby is still not feeling well. There are so many things going on with her at the moment that there are days where I am just so overwhelmed and I don't know who cries more, her or me :( We are still house bound although a physical therapist is coming by today to help me figure out how to get Shelby into the car. I really want the Orthopedics doctors to figure out something different to do with her leg as this cast is causing too much swelling which makes her leg hurt. And just moving her makes her cry which is awful, as I have to turn her to do her dialysis. Anyway....thanks for letting me vent a little on my blog. When I am able, I want to get back to my minis :)

Home again....

We are home again from another hospital stay but this time we got an answer. Shelby has been in a lot of pain for the last 3 weeks and after multiple visits to the doctors and a couple of hospital stays, we found out that Shelby had a fractured femur. She went in for surgery this past monday and a pin was put in her leg. Unfortunately because of her home dialysis and swelling issues, they could not put her in a body cast, so she has a leg cast that just goes up to above the fracture. Because of this, they have put her in a brace which she absolutely hates and because of other swelling issues, she only has to wear it when she is taken out of bed. Today is our first day home and it has been quite a challenge not having the nurses here to help. Wish I could fast forward 3 months so the healing would be further along and she would be feeling better.

They put her in intensive care for a couple of days but we are now out on the regular floor. They are going to do another Echo tomorrow some time which will hopefully look better. In the back corner I have built up a platform which is where the cabinets for the dolls will be. The dollhouses will be in front of the windows.

Haven't had much time to work on minis due to my daughters health so thought I would start showing some more of my projects. Todays choice is a mini doll/dollhouse shop that started a few years ago. My problem is, once I finish the building, I lose interest in filling them :)

Just wanted to say thank you for the well wishes that Shelby has received. We have been home from the hospital a little over a week now and we are starting to make adjustments. She is still on the antibiotics (which she will be on permanently now) and we are taking one day at a time. The doctors still don't know what the outcome will be but I am hoping that we get more time with her. Please keep your positive thoughts heading our way. Thanks again.

In the hospital

Sorry I haven't been on much but my daughter is in the hospital with Peritonitis. We have been here at UCSF since the September 16th and she was supposed to be discharged on the 25th but she has another infection. Unfortunately they are not quite sure what kind so we are here for awhile :(

It's not like I don't have enough projects to work on :) This is another one that was started many years ago that I purchased form a friend. I have added a few things and am thinking about repainting but haven't decided on a color yet. The front door was done by Barbara Sabia. Both sides open up and as it has quite a few rooms I am thinking of turning each of them into their own little specialty shops. Will try and get pics of it open when my batteries charge up :)

Haven't worked on the Queen Anne for ages so can't really show any progress. What I can show is a room box that I built and sold. For some reason I really enjoy the building part but the decorating throws me for a loop :)

Haven't really done any work on it in a while but the next thing I'd like to get started on is the wiring so I can start laying the flooring. I was thinking I wanted to do ceiling fans on the porch but I'm also thinking of recessed lighting. Decisions, decisions.........

I had the windows and door inserts custom made just to make my Queen Anne more unique. Barbara Sabia is the stained glass artist and she does incredible work!

Just about finished with all the shingles (just have to finish the tower) and have started some off the contrast trim. I set the windows in to see what it would look like but it still seems like it needs something.....
Before I can start on the decking I need to figure out what kind of lighting I want to have for the porch.
